Finally, let's get this riding season started!

We'll do a slow roll around Oberlin for approx. 10 miles, stopping at a point of interest. We'll end the town part of the ride back at Auto Zone parking lot. Riders can end their ride there, or after a short rest break can continue with a trail ride for approximately 10 additional miles.

The SWCC Towpath Trail Trilogy is a 2*, picturesque, and educational ride contrived such that:
Anyone completing the Trilogy will have biked every last yard of the Towpath Trail from Lake Erie to Akron.

Each part of the trilogy has ample stops to read placards, see the vistas, enjoy things you might not know.

Part 1: the “northern” section
A round trip from EdgeWater Park to Harvard Ave Trailhead
with lunch at the 1/2 way turnaround (Cleats). This is the hilliest of the Trilogy.
We will stop at the top of each hill to accommodate walkers and catch our breath.

This leg of the trilogy highlights the urban yet nature aspect of the towpath trail.
We will stop at most placards, vistas and points of interest
Bring a bike lock, money for lunch.

RIDE OF SILENCE

This will be our 14th Annual Ride of Silence. Along with hundreds of other groups across the country we participate in this unique event. It originated to memorialize friends who were killed while riding and to bring to the attention of drivers that they are sharing the road with bicycles. We go one step further and recall all members who have passed while part of our organization. We have had two members die on bikes and quite a few more who have passed otherwise.

Please gather outside of the Oberlin Depot prior to the 5PM start time. You can park at the Dollar General lot and safely cross Rt. 58. We will then have a short ceremony honoring Silver Wheelers who have passed on. We leave the Depot with club member Pati Habenicht playing her bagpipes to do a six mile 10 mph ride with a police escort around Oberlin. We will ride single file and silent.

At the completion of the RoS the regular Wednesday evening club ride(s) will assemble in the Dollar General lot as usual. (approximately 5:40 pm)

Steve Woosley Memorial Depot Day Rides 4 x 25 miles

This ride was first proposed and organized by club member Steve Woosley. The name was changed in 2019 to honor his memory.

Four 25 mile loop options are offered. (both clockwise and counter clockwise). All routes start and end at the Abram Pavilion in Oberlin. (next to the gasholder building behind McDonald'

s).

This is a Map/YOYO (You’re On Your Own) ride. Riding the trail is also recordable mileage. There are no designated ride leaders. The routes are not marked and there is no SAG support. It is strongly recommended that you print your own map/cues using the RWGPS event link below:

Riders are encouraged to ride with a partner and carry a cell phone. Folks offering to ride specific routes at certain times/paces looking for companions will be posted here as known.

Riders should sign in at the pavilion prior to riding, or, if starting before 8 a.m., stop in between segments. Riders are also asked to check back in when they are finished riding to record their mileage for the day. This helps us track who is still on the road. Note: Restrooms at the Abram Pavilion do not open until 8 a.m.

If you wish, this event is a nice chance to stretch yourself and achieve a personal record for ride length, do a century - metric or full - or just enjoy a fun ride in a familiar and friendly environment. Do as many loops as you want, quit when you have had enough,

Saturday, July 11, will be the annual "Ride The Dog" event. This will be an opportunity for Club members to ride and review the routes for our annual invitational ride "Dog Days Wine Tour", (since we will be working on the day of the DDWT supporting the ride).

You can start your ride from the Oberlin Auto Zone lot. From there you can easily ride to Professor St. and pick up the route. Actual route starts at the college but we don’t have permission to park there. Please understand that this is basically an unsupported map ride (YOYO), with no real services or leaders. Rest stops may not be open to us in the early morning. It is advised to group up with others who wish to ride the chosen route at a similar pace. Folks intending to ride specific routes at certain times/paces and looking for companions will be posted here as known.

Part 3: the “Southern” section
A ~27+ mile one way ride from Rockside road to Akron with a Train ride to get back to the starting line.
The Akron train departures dictate if lunch will be Lugi’s in Akron or Yours_Truely at the start/finish line.
The assumption is that we will have ample time to have lunch in Akron (Lugi’s).

This Leg of the trilogy highlights the Nature Portion of the towpath trail.
We will stop at most placards, vistas and points of interest
There will be a short (15 min?) one way hike to see the historical stone quarry.
There are not many hills but we will pause at the top as needed.
Bring a bike lock, money for lunch, farmers market (Szalay’s) and $5 for the train ride including bike home.

NOTE: E-BIKES are NOT allowed on the train so plan accordingly.
One option for E-bikes is to leave your bike locked up at the lunch stop / train station and ride the train back with us - then use your car to collect your bike.

DDWT Prep Day, Oberlin College (Friday, July 17, 2026)

This day is for all those who are involved with preparations for Dog Days Wine Tour.

All supplies for the event should be brought to the facility today. Someone will be there by 10AM

Food and rest stop supplies will be sorted starting about 1PM.

The main room, tables and chairs will be organized along with registration, merchandise etc.

We will double check the registration process too.

Rest stop captains need to pick up their supplies between 3PM and 5PM

Any other volunteers are welcome to stop by to help or just see the facility so we all know what to expect the next day.

Several SW have done this ride in the past and it is a great time. Most riders arrive on Friday. There is a 36 mile round trip ride on the PumpkinVine Trail http://pumpkinvine.org that is fun to ride (mostly flat). This is a YOYO ride that you can ride as many miles as you want with some ice cream stops on the way. This is an independent ride and not part of the Official Amishland ride. On Saturday the Amish folk go out of their way to provide interesting items to eat on various routes.

In the past many SW stayed at hotels off the I90 freeway but this year we were able to secure a block of

rooms at the Van Buren Hotel in Shipshewana. About a stones throw to the Pumpkin vine bike trail and

about the same distance (~10 miles) to the start as the I90 hotels.

There are many eateries and places to see in Shipshewana (This Amish town closes down on Sunday – so make your sightseeing on Friday and Saturday)

There is camping at the ride headquarters, and the website provides camping info.

This is the information we have on the block rooms for the Van Buren Hotel. Right now, we need an estimated count of who is interested so we can set up the contract for the group rate. The hotel has a 21-day cutoff prior to arrival, at which time any rooms not picked up would be released back to the public. If you are planning on doing the ride but have made other accommodations let us know that as well.

 5–9 rooms would qualify as a small group, receiving 15% off our base rate. That rate would be $156.40 per night plus tax at double occupancy

 Anything below 5 rooms would revert to the standard base rate.

 Room configurations:

Our two-queen standard rooms can accommodate up to four adults. An additional $5 per night

applies for the third guest and $5 per night for the fourth guest.

DENNIS STOUT MEMORIAL DEPOT DAY REDUX RIDE

Several loop options are offered, (both clockwise - CW, and counter clockwise - CCW). Do as many loops as you want, quit when you have had enough. Trail riding will also be accepted. All routes start and end at the Wakeman Elevator.

This is a Map/YOYO (You’re On Your Own) ride. There are no designated ride leaders. The routes are not marked and there is no SAG support. It is strongly recommended that you print your own cue sheets or download routes using the RWGPS Event link below. Riders are encouraged to ride with a partner and carry a cell phone.

Participants should sign in at the Elevator prior to riding. Riders should also check back in when they are finished riding and to record their mileage for the day and indicate they are no longer on the road.

There is limited parking behind the storage facilities at the back of the restaurant, at the Wakeman Community Park parking lot, and the gravel lot next to Affordable Storage on Railroad Ave.

PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN WAKEMAN ELEVATOR'S FRONT LOT-THAT IS FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS

The Elevator kindly lets us use their facility for this ride so please patronize them throughout the day. Good food and cold beer!

I am looking for Elevator sitters to sit at the sign in table to assist riders coming and going. Any amount of hours or time of day is needed and welcomed. Please contact me if you can help.

Halloween Ride and Potluck

This fun ride and potluck is on the calendar again this year! Bicycle safe costumes are encouraged, but not required. We will be starting at the Oberlin Public Library, 65 South Main St. Park in the library parking lot, the police station/city hall lot, or at the medical offices just behind the library.

10:00 A.M.: Room setup and food drop-off. We are in the Community Room, just past the restrooms, on the right. A refrigerator is available in the kitchenette.

10:30 - Rides start.

12:30 P.M. - Eat, socialize, and play games.

Here’s where help is needed:

Soup Suppliers: We 6 - 8 volunteers to supply a crock pot of soup.

Potluck Contributors: Members are welcome (not mandatory) to bring salads, breads, crackers, desserts, etc. You don’t have to sign up to indicate what you are bringing in advance - you bring it, we'll eat it. If you have nothing to bring, come anyway. We only ran out of food once – but that is another story.

Soup “Sentries”: Someone to be at the library at 10 a.m. and to oversee arranging tables, putting on tablecloths, organizing the buffet line, stirring the soup pots, etc. We need several non-riders to assist with those tasks while the rides are going on. Contact Eva if you can help.

We would like to encourage members who are no longer riding, to come, eat and socialize.

Anybody who doesn't plan to ride is still ENCOURAGED to come socialize and eat. If you're not riding, there will probably be some table games to play, you can help with the food set up, or listen to stories of past rides and riders - they get "enhanced" and "improved" every year!

Room Restorers: Help take down the tables and fold and stack the chairs. You don’t have to sign up in advance, just be around to help when we wrap up.

Costumes optional but fun. We've seen you in bike clothes...you probably won't look any weirder. If riding, be sure your costume is bike safe.

Ride Leaders: Ride leaders for open star levels needed, +/– rides are also welcome. Contact Tom if you are willing to plan and lead a ride.

2026 Fall Chili Wiener Ride & Potluck

It's that time of year to get your thermals and chili recipes out!!

This annual event marks the official close of our 2026 riding season. Any mileage achieved subsequent to these rides will be recorded for the 2027 riding season.

We will be meeting at the Oberlin Public Library.
