Quick List of Actions to Take if you are Witness to a Bike Accident
- The first thing is to try to move out of the way, if it is safe to do so. Stop traffic if need be.
- If you come to an accident while driving, turn on your hazard lights. Then, see if the injured person is breathing and ask if they are ok.
- Next, call 911 if the person is unconscious, bleeding, has a head injury or is in severe pain. Tell the operator your location and what happened.
- If you can, provide basic first aid. If they are bleeding apply gentle pressure with a cloth or bandage.
- If there is a head injury, keep the person still and calm.
- Are there signs of shock? Some of the signs are being pale, cold or dizzy. Have them lie down and keep them warm. Stay with the person until help arrives and watch for changes in breathing or consciousness.
- Last, if you’re involved in the accident, move to a safe place, call 911, Exchange your name, contact, and insurance.
- if there is a vehicle involved and you are able, take pictures.
- If there are head injuries, they can have symptoms later, so they need to get medical attention.
