Event Page - https://ridewithgps.com/events/479566-not-goba-2026.
Please be aware that start times may change based on weather conditions. If we get an early rainout, the order of rides may also change so keep an eye on the ride calendar.
Today: We will ride out to Fishers Pier and then to the Castalia Fish Hatchery (bring a baggie of cherrios or similar to feed the fish). We will be back to the cars at mile 27 (after passing Toft Dairy Ice Cream at mile 26). The optional slow ride into Sandusky, with a lunch stop at the Dockside Cafe, adds 8 more miles to the route.

Same ride as actual Trilogy #3 but vetting will be slightly slower 1* ish pace If you can't make the actual trilogy ride the vetting ride will "count" as having done the trilogy ride. To do the vetting ride review this link and show up on Jun 25th (the actual Trilogy3 is Jul 16)
*
*******************************************************
Additional information Added 6/19/26:
The Trilogy3 Vetting ride is June 25th with a 9:30am KSU. For all trilogies, the Vetting ride will be a 1* pace but the actual trilogy a 2* pace. The train ticket back to our cars is $10 regardless of you having a bicycle or not. NEW INFORMATION!!!! The Cuyahoga Valley National Railroad has updated their E-Bike Policy. Per the railroad's website certain E-bikes ARE now permitted for transport. The provisions for transport are the battery is removed from the bike. (You may carry the battery on your person when riding the train). And the resultant bike must be under 40LBS. If the above does not apply to you then the next best option is to leave your E-bike locked up at your choice of lunch stop or train station and ride the train back with us. YOu would then use your car to retrieve your bike.

We will also have a brief stop at a farmers market. one of the things being learned in the vetting ride is the "proper" KSU start time that will accommodate the hiking and farmers market and lunch yet still comfortably make the 4pm train home. Our 9:30 KSU is assumed to be way-too-early but until I do this ride once I don't know what a realistic KSU should be.

Our third annual NOT GOBA series of rides will be held from June 20th to June 26th. Please be aware that start times may change based on weather conditions. If we get an early rainout, the order of rides may also change so keep an eye on the ride calendar.
Today: Ride the NCIT to lunch in Norwalk at the Freight House Tavern. Bring a bike lock. Please be aware that there is a 2.8 mile stretch of unpaved crushed limestone trail going into, and out of, Norwalk. There is a way around the unpaved section but you would be adding a few miles to the route and you would be on you own.
After the ride, regardless of where you started from, please join us for a stop at the Oberlin Bike Shop to support your LBS and then at Haven Brewing for some post NOT GOBA refreshments.
For the 51 mile route, we will be starting our route in the parking lot behind Haven and The Oberlin Bike Shop. There are several parking options nearby but be aware that there are also reserved and posted towing spots you should avoid. (Please don’t park directly behind the Oberlin Bike Shop so that their customers can use those spots.) There are several spots that appear to be free parking behind FAVA and on the north side of FAVA, just don’t park in their marked reserved spots or the apartment building's reserved spots. There are also spots in front of the Plum Creek Park on S Pleasant Street. There is also free parking behind the Police Station and at the Library.
For the 40 mile route, park at the Kipton Village Hall and Community Park (299 State St) and be ready for us to ride by around 8:45 or so. For the 30 mile route, park at the Wakeman Community Park (E Main St) and be ready for us to ride by about 9:15. There are port-a-potties available at both parks.

Today: The 40 mile ride for 2* riders will start with me at Kipton Community Park at 8:45 a.m. For the 30 mile option starting at Wakeman Community Park be ready by 9:10 a.m. to join the Kipton 2* riders. I will stop to sign you in. Ride the NCIT to lunch in Norwalk at the Freight House Tavern. Bring a bike lock. Please be aware that there is a 2.8 mile stretch of unpaved crushed limestone trail going into, and out of, Norwalk. There is a way around the unpaved section but you would be adding a few miles to the route and you would be on you own.
Note: Be aware the indicated route uses an Oberlin start for 3* riders, whereas the 2* group will start and end in Kipton or Wakeman.
I'm creating my own adventure for the last day of GOBA and inviting any interested folks to join me. Anyone joining is not required to ride the full 111 miles, and folks are welcome to join at any point on the route. Start time is going to be dawn, so please send me an email or a text if you plan on joining me for the start. For those interested in meeting me along the way, feel free to text me at 440-420-9463 so I can give you a rough idea when I may be at the location you plan to join me. Due to the nature of this ride, riders may end up riding solo if they are not riding the full route, so please make sure you are comfortable with that prior to joining.

I saw there wasn't a "Not Goba" ride for Saturday next week, so I put my own little adventure on the schedule. I'm covering a lot of ground - 111 miles - so I welcome anyone to join me along the way. I'll be riding at no higher than a 4* pace due to the distance and it would be great to ride with some friendly faces even for short sections. I'm also okay riding at a 3* pace if that works better for anyone joining in. If anyone is interested in catching up with me at any point, send me a message or text me at 440-420-9463 to coordinate times. The route is posted to the calendar for anyone looking for a spot to catch on. I will be starting at sunup, so meetup times will be based on an early start time. -Sean

We'll do a slow roll around Oberlin for approx. 10 miles, stopping at a point of interest. We'll end the town part of the ride back at Auto Zone parking lot. Riders can end their ride there, or after a short rest break can continue with a trail ride for approximately 10 additional miles.
Meet in the Abram Pavilion lot behind McDonald's off the AutoZone lot

The SWCC Towpath Trail Trilogy is a 2*, picturesque, and educational ride contrived such that: Anyone completing the Trilogy will have biked every last yard of the Towpath Trail from Lake Erie to Akron.
Each part of the trilogy has ample stops to read placards, see the vistas, enjoy things you might not know.
Part 2: the “Middle” section
A ~13 mile 1 way / ~26 mile round trip From Station Rd bridge to Harvard Ave Trailhead with lunch at the 1/2 way turnaround (Cleats). There are not many hills but we will pause at the top of each to accommodate walkers and catch our breath. This Leg of the trilogy highlights the transition between Urban and Nature. We will stop at most placards, vistas and points of interest. Bring a bike lock, money for lunch.

New folks. If you are confused about who to ride with, just ask someone to point you to a ride leader or other veteran member, who will help to get you in the appropriate riding group. It can be a bit hectic just prior to ride time, so an early arrival is suggested.
After the rides a lot of the folks get together for a little pizzaraderie at a local eatery. Not mandatory - but fun. Ask around if interested.

Part 3: the “Southern” section A ~27+ mile one way ride from Rockside road to Akron with a Train ride to get back to the starting line. The Akron train departures dictate if lunch will be Lugi’s in Akron or Yours_Truely at the start/finish line. The assumption is that we will have ample time to have lunch in Akron (Lugi’s). This Leg of the trilogy highlights the Nature Portion of the towpath trail. We will stop at most placards, vistas and points of interest There will be a short (15 min?) one way hike to see the historical stone quarry. There are not many hills but we will pause at the top as needed. Bring a bike lock, money for lunch, farmers market (Szalay’s) and $5 for the train ride including bike home. NOTE: E-BIKES are NOT allowed on the train so plan accordingly. One option for E-bikes is to leave your bike locked up at the lunch stop / train station and ride the train back with us - then use your car to collect your bike.

Amishland and Lakes
Several SW have done this ride in the past and it is a great time. Most riders arrive on Friday. There is a 36 mile round trip ride on the PumpkinVine Trail http://pumpkinvine.org that is fun to ride (mostly flat). This is a YOYO ride that you can ride as many miles as you want with some ice cream stops on the way. This is an independent ride and not part of the Official Amishland ride. Here is the RWGPS route for
the Pumpkinvine trail.
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43820130
On Saturday the Amish folk go out of their way to provide interesting items to eat on various routes.
In the past many SW stayed at hotels off the I90 freeway but this year we were able to secure a block of
rooms at the Van Buren Hotel in Shipshewana. About a stones throw to the Pumpkin vine bike trail and
about the same distance (~10 miles) to the start as the I90 hotels.
There are many eateries and places to see in Shipshewana (This Amish town closes down on Sunday – so make your sightseeing on Friday and Saturday)
There is camping at the ride headquarters, and the website provides camping info.
This is the information we have on the block rooms for the Van Buren Hotel. Right now, we need an estimated count of who is interested so we can set up the contract for the group rate. The hotel has a 21-day cutoff prior to arrival, at which time any rooms not picked up would be released back to the public. If you are planning on doing the ride but have made other accommodations let us know that as well.
 5–9 rooms would qualify as a small group, receiving 15% off our base rate. That rate would be $156.40 per night plus tax at double occupancy
ď‚· Anything below 5 rooms would revert to the standard base rate.
ď‚· Room configurations:
Our two-queen standard rooms can accommodate up to four adults. An additional $5 per night
applies for the third guest and $5 per night for the fourth guest.
Below is the hotel link to the brochure.

If you have any questions or possibly plan to ride the tour let us know by February 5 and we’ll make a roster of attendees.

Tentative Itinerary, with the understanding that weather and other unpredictable forces may alter plans. Also with the understanding that the attendees of this trip may have a variety of riding styles and preferences. Ideally it would be great if we all rode together but if I ride too slow I certainly don't want to hold anyone back and you may plan your own routes, I will assure the group that no riders will be left to fend for themselves.
Day 1. Rail 66 20 miles (40 out and back)
Rail 66 Country Trail, Rte 322, Shippenville, PA 16254

Day 3. The Oil Creek State Park Trail. 9.5 connected to Queen City Trail 1.5 miles on the north end and the McClintock Trail to the South 9.4 miles. Combine the three trails and you have an out and back ride of 40 miles. Or longer if you wish to add the connected Samuel Justice Trail
Day 4 Sandy Creek Trail 12 miles long. Riders can do the whole trail out and back for quick 24 miles before the drive home or a shorter version or add miles as it intersects The Allegheny River Trail.
All trails are paved and flat. and many of the trails are connected so there are many options for those who wish to extend the daily rides.

DENNIS STOUT MEMORIAL DEPOT DAY REDUX RIDE
Several loop options are offered, (both clockwise - CW, and counter clockwise - CCW). Do as many loops as you want, quit when you have had enough. Trail riding will also be accepted. All routes start and end at the Wakeman Elevator.
This is a Map/YOYO (You’re On Your Own) ride. There are no designated ride leaders. The routes are not marked and there is no SAG support. It is strongly recommended that you print your own cue sheets or download routes using the RWGPS Event link below. Riders are encouraged to ride with a partner and carry a cell phone.
RWGPS Event Link: Stout Memorial Event
Participants should sign in at the Elevator prior to riding. Riders should also check back in when they are finished riding and to record their mileage for the day and indicate they are no longer on the road.
There is limited parking behind the storage facilities at the back of the restaurant, at the Wakeman Community Park parking lot, and the gravel lot next to Affordable Storage on Railroad Ave.
PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN WAKEMAN ELEVATOR'S FRONT LOT-THAT IS FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS
The Elevator kindly lets us use their facility for this ride so please patronize them throughout the day. Good food and cold beer!
I am looking for Elevator sitters to sit at the sign in table to assist riders coming and going. Any amount of hours or time of day is needed and welcomed. Please contact me if you can help.

FALL PICNIC
Event honoring the folks that make this club work - the ride leaders. If you have led a ride, been on a ride led by a leader, intend to go on a ride led by a leader in the future, or just want to see what a ride leader looks like from the front, this event is for you. Here’s another chance to socialize, share a meal and talk about all the great events that our ride leaders have put together, including a wrong turn or two. All members and guests welcome.
The location is the same as last year, 12837 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, OH, 44050, (across from Carlisle Visitor Center), hosted by Joe and Kathy Yourkiewicz.
The club is providing food from Lorenzos. We will have pizza, lasagna, salad, and rolls. It is not necessary to bring food, but you may if you wish. Do bring your own beverages. We have some chairs but some people will need to bring some. Planning to eat at 2:00. We ask that you register, (by clicking the blue box to the left - registration opens August 16). It makes it so much easier for the planners to get an idea of how much food to order.
New folks, come, socialize, hear the stories - some of them may be true - .and find out how much fun you missed this year. This event requires no riding, a helmet is not needed, and no miles are earned.

Halloween Ride and Potluck
This fun ride and potluck is on the calendar again this year! Bicycle safe costumes are encouraged, but not required. We will be starting at the Oberlin Public Library, 65 South Main St. Park in the library parking lot, the police station/city hall lot, or at the medical offices just behind the library.
10:00 A.M.: Room setup and food drop-off. We are in the Community Room, just past the restrooms, on the right. A refrigerator is available in the kitchenette.
10:30 - Rides start.
12:30 P.M. - Eat, socialize, and play games.
Here’s where help is needed:
Soup Suppliers: We 6 - 8 volunteers to supply a crock pot of soup.
Potluck Contributors: Members are welcome (not mandatory) to bring salads, breads, crackers, desserts, etc. You don’t have to sign up to indicate what you are bringing in advance - you bring it, we'll eat it. If you have nothing to bring, come anyway. We only ran out of food once – but that is another story.
Soup “Sentries”: Someone to be at the library at 10 a.m. and to oversee arranging tables, putting on tablecloths, organizing the buffet line, stirring the soup pots, etc. We need several non-riders to assist with those tasks while the rides are going on. Contact Eva if you can help.
We would like to encourage members who are no longer riding, to come, eat and socialize.
Anybody who doesn't plan to ride is still ENCOURAGED to come socialize and eat. If you're not riding, there will probably be some table games to play, you can help with the food set up, or listen to stories of past rides and riders - they get "enhanced" and "improved" every year!
Room Restorers: Help take down the tables and fold and stack the chairs. You don’t have to sign up in advance, just be around to help when we wrap up.
Costumes optional but fun. We've seen you in bike clothes...you probably won't look any weirder. If riding, be sure your costume is bike safe.
Ride Leaders: Ride leaders for open star levels needed, +/– rides are also welcome. Contact Tom if you are willing to plan and lead a ride.

Which other Silver Wheels members are doing the Red Flannel Ride? I am doing the 62-mile route, likely at a 2+ or 3- pace. Christopher M. Day

--__________My plans for Red Flannel are:
Register day of ride. Roll out at 10:00 am. Ride the flatlander course which is trail west to Wakeman 28 miles. I'll be riding a 2* pace. Let me know if you're thinking of riding with me. It will be cold by my standards with wind from the west...not too strong. I'm not leading this ride, it's a YOYO, but would enjoy having others with me. Eva Weber weber.1@osu.edu
